Certified Power Technology (CPT) TVPPA’s Certified Power Technology (CPT) program supplements the formal education of engineers not schooled in power theory and methodology. It is also valuable for engineering technicians and associate engineers who have limited electrical power education. The CPT program addresses technological changes within the electric utility industry. Additionally, the program is designed for distributors who have acquired substations and transmission lines.  View
Certified Safety Coordinator (CSC) Individuals responsible for safety management must have current, professional knowledge and expertise to achieve and maintain a safe work environment and work practices for utility employees. TVPPA developed the Certified Safety Coordinator (CSC) to address modern health and safety issues.  View
Distribution System Operator (DSO) TVPPA, alongside SOS Intl (SOS), announce the launch of a new distribution system operator certificate program specific to control center employees. This comprehensive, instructor led program focuses on the technical concepts of modern electric power distribution design, equipment, and operations  View
Electrical Metering TVPPA`s electrical metering program provides training in electrical metering and electronic register equipment and operations. Laboratory sessions provide training with single-phase hookups, single-phase network metering, self-contained polyphase, three-phase hookups, delta and Wye hookups, test board applications, and recent developments in electronic register testing, maintenance and programming.  View
Line Design & Staking The multi-tiered program focuses on guiding students through the understanding and application of engineering design for electric distribution systems. New line designers will leave each course with the strong foundation necessary to move forward in a career in line design, while experienced designers gain the confidence of knowing how to prove their decisions on paper. Engineering concepts and formulas specific to power line design and relevant to the Field Technician’s responsibilities are taught and enable participants to utilize the knowledge and skills gained for immediate on-the-job benefit. This comprehensive certification program verifies proficiency at each level and provides a roadmap for lifelong learning for electric utility engineering and technical personnel.  View

Power Distribution Engineer The PDE is designed to significantly enhance the skills and abilities of entry-level engineers working in a distribution utility. The program is intended to provide participants with formal power engineering courses they may not have had in their undergraduate studies and will also serve very well as a refresher for those seeking to “brush-up” their day-to-day engineering skills. The PDE curriculum is made up of four courses, three of which were developed and will be delivered by Dr. Jack Lawler of the University of Tennessee’s School of Electrical Engineering. The fourth was developed in conjunction with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).  View
Protective Relaying Protective Relaying provides a comprehensive knowledge of protective relay operations and procedures. Individuals study and receive practical training working with potential and current transformers; over-current, power differential and distance relays; linear couplers; fiber optics; instrument transformer connections; capacitor voltage transformers; testing and inspection procedures; analysis of electrical equipment and fault current calculations.  View
Substation Maintenance Substation Maintenance covers the basic operations and maintenance of electrical substation equipment. Individuals study substation maintenance including power transmission system theory, power system standards, distribution transformers, instrument transformers, and the installation acceptance and maintenance of electrical substation equipment. The laboratory session provides training in electrical safety, AC and DC instruments, inspection, testing and maintenance of various substation equipment, cable testing, fault finding, and low resistance measurement.  View
